Considered to be a part of Greater Helsinki and a satellite suburb of this Finnish capital, Vantaa is actually a city in its own right. Most people arrive at the city's Helsinki Vantaa International Airport, which lies on the north-westerly outskirts and is Finland's biggest airport and a leading world transport hub, offering superb flight connections.

Vantaa and Helsinki are well connected by regular buses and trains, allows tourists to reach the capital in around half and hour. However, in August, the crowds are coming the other way and people flock to Vantaa from Helsinki and all over Finland, to join in the fun at the enormous Ankkarock festival.

Many of Finland's very best tourist attractions are located in nearby Helsinki, although Vantaa does have plenty to offer in the way of sightseeing. The Heureka Science Centre is amongst the main highlights and contains a planetarium (Verne Theatre), being conveniently close to the Tikkurila train station. Close to the city centre is Vantaa's Helsinki Pavil, a spacious pavilion where many live events are hosted. With information about a range of different topics, which generally relate to this part of Finland, the museums in Vantaa are extremely appealing and whilst by no means as plentiful as those in Helsinki, still have much to offer. The Vantaa Art Museum is located within the Myyrmäki Hall and regularly features changing art exhibitions from all over Europe, while the City Museum appeals to those wishing the learn more about the history of the city itself and how it has evolved.
